Keeping Busy and Distracted

Okay, the weekend is finally coming to an end.  I’m sitting listening to the birdies and the house sounds realizing that I managed to keep reasonably busy for the weekend (including a 4 mile walk this morning which was probably not the best idea).

Tomorrow is back to school after spring break.  It is back to work.  It is the day I find out (probably) when my MRI will be.

I’ve been looking at old vacation pictures (go Disney World!!!) and listening to music and playing with my DS’s iPad.  I’m ready for the other shoe to drop

Being Silly

Sometimes it is just the best choice to go with it when the sillies hit.  Granted, there are times and situations where just… going with it… would not be a good idea (like… in the middle of a meeting… or in church… or… oh, lots of places… ) but there are also places and times when silly just seems to work.

The other night the sillies started running through my head… (lately they have been around music).  Mahna Mahna (muppets or better yet early sesame street)

It has KIND of expanded from there to muppets and sesame street and it ended up with my carrying on awesome conversations with people online that I probably wouldn’t have had otherwise.

Marathon Morning

The city quietly comes alive.  Skinny boy… Complete with the crud from our house… Is checking bags for now and will start handing out medals at 8.  There are SO many people yet it is amazingly quiet.

In a croud of 20000 runners… I am all alone

An RA geek looks at the half marathon Part 1

It was suggested that it is a good idea to stay as active as possible.  It was also suggested that “running” may not be the best idea in all RA cases (or Pilate’s for that matter).  The half seemed doable.  The rheumatologist seemed to be okay with this as long as you’re careful.

It was only three months after diagnosis… it was scary… it was really really scary.  Yoga class had been going on for only a month and it was valentines day and adrenaline was high.  So was my RA.  I was immensely happy that at least Adam went with me and he even volunteered at the event.   It did him good.  He realized that people don’t always judge you just by what they see.

I finished.  I almost literally drug myself across the finish line, but I finished.  I was in SO much pain at the time that I could have cried.  Adam drove home.

The high point of the race was getting to see the city at eye level and getting to see things that go unnoticed… seeing people pushing as hard as everyone else was pushing.  It became goals to see the mileage signs and to see who in the same race kept pace with whom.

Today starts this year’s actual event deal.  It is the Marathon Expo.  I have my fanny pack all ready to go.  Purple dry fit long sleeved “under” shirt, my Epilepsy Awareness shirt, my running pants, my wicking socks and my Nike’s are folded on the end of the bed.  Camera ready, batteries charged (even the extra one) and the memory card empty.  Pictures will be posted.

People At The Expo

People at the Expo, there to buy stuff… there to pick up their bibs… there to experience the experience… Interesting.  Got greek yogurt for breakfast tomorrow and munchy bars for in the ‘race’ … probiotic drink stuff (it is supposed to help with the immune system…. I know that they mean for ‘normal’ people who take the stuff right after the race… but I’m all for improved immune system.

Where the Expo Was

This is the event center where the expo is.  It was rainy… Guess who managed to fall up the wet curb in the mud… good thing the camera is water proof and shock proof.  Felt like a graceful dork.  8 people ran to help me up.  Knee hurts from falling.  Wrist hurts from trying to catch myself falling.  Grace.

Shot from where we parked.  Narrow picture of the sky line.

The rain is supposed to end today.  This is a good thing.  now… wish me luck.

Out Of Joint on my Nook

Okay, okay… I’ll admit it, I crazy as a loon.  And I will never learn… but… hey… it is what it is. I found Out Of Joint by Mary Felstiner (2005) and decided that it was worth a read… I … Continue reading

I never claimed to be smart

It’s 5:30 the morning after Christmas.  I’m sitting in the car in Walmart parking lot.  It is 30 degrees and the radio music is back to “mormal” (no more Christmas music). Found out that Walmart doesnt open till 6 so i figured i would catch up with this.  I love my phone.
The cars, most of them anyway, are frost covered… And I have on my Vibrams hairless hobbit shoes.  Not really smart probably.
Yesterday was Christmas.  Adam was up early for a change and prowling for people to be up to open stuff. I havecalways had kids who sleep in even on Christmas so this was really novel.
I figured out early on that i really dont want to lift and carry a turkey ehen my back still hurts.  I busted my but most of the day fixing dinner and it turned out really well.  Angie even thanked me for dinner.  That made me smile.
After dinner at our house I sat down and watched my mom stream video from Christmas dinner at her house (actually my brother’s apartment).  All of a sudden I am a big fan of Ustream.  It was wonderful to be able to be a fly on the wall at home and to vicariously be there with them.  Trooper was a character as always.  Amandya got to see that her favorite uncle looks very down when she isnt there to keep him animated.  Adam got mooned by Billy snd Trooper and wished Merry Christmas.    It was really wonderful and it was really hard because it reminded me that we are half a country away.  I wouldnt have traded it for anything.
And the pager didnt go off once… It is all mine for two long weeks and it has been blissfully quiet so far.
Now… It is almost time to go try to fight the other loonies for soap and hand cream… I must be crazy.

Getting Back to Getting Going…

This morning I woke up early.  I have been kicking myself for not getting my butt moving.  I will never be able to move fast enough in February to finish my half.  So I figured I was up anyway and I might as well start today again…
So out I go.  It was 34 degrees… Podrunner was my company…  2 and a half miles in half an hour… Cool down and stretch… Even did sun salutations at 4:45 (go yoga).  Trying to get warm feet ever since but it felt so good… And nothing is hurting right now…

The silence of morning…

Am I Weird?

Yes, I understand that it is an ENTIRELY rhetoric question.  That I’m weird is a given.  Sometimes I just am reminded HOW weird that I am.  Often it is in the library where I realize just how left of center my taste in just about anything and everything is.  Today it is wandering aimlessly (as the house sleeps and the squirrel sleeps on the floor at the foot of my bed) through Amazon.com finding free music download albums…
